MMCC’s Educational Performance Shows 2006

MMCC’s performances always include one or two educational shows. In 2006 the mobile circus will perform the below mentioned educational messages. The Mine Risk Education will be performed at all locations in or near to mine risk areas; the Hand washing/diarrhea prevention and Back to School shows will be performed depending on local needs and wishes.

Mine Risk Education show:
The show consist of two informative parts that each last for approximately 10 minutes. Both will be performed as part of a full MMCC performance. The shows are performed by six Afghan artists including two musicians. In the shows two comedian characters are gradually learning about landmines and how to be aware. In the final part of the second show the educational messages are repeated by a song that helps the children to memorize and adapt the messages.
The main messages addressed by the two Mine Risk Education shows are:
1) Old metal can be UXO’s. Do not touch it – call the landmine inspector
2) Don’t move if you are near a landmine – have someone to call the landmine inspector and wait for him

Hand washing/diarrhea prevention show:
The show is an informative and educational comedy theater show performed by three actors plus two musicians to help children understand the importance of hand washing, consequences of low hygiene and how it causes disease and finally the proper techniques of effective hand washing. The hand washing-piece has been performed for more than 350.000 children in 2003-05 and has proved to be very successful, easily understandable and popular among the children.

Back to school show:
The show is an informative and educational comedy theater highlighting that time is now for studying and finding ways to get a good and joyful life. This 15 minutes educational entertainment is performed by three artists plus two musicians. Like all MMCC performances it has a clear child friendly approach. By highlighting positive things that are easy for the children to identify themselves with in a funny way, the play encourage the children to study and live and enjoy a peaceful life.

Methods:
To reach children of all levels of understanding a number of different educational tools are utilized in all MMCC’s educational performances. The most essential educational tools and methods are:

- Visual input by big props
